Introducing the Brazos Dwarf Crayfish, a miniature freshwater crayfish that features a spunky personality! Dwarf crayfish are also known as mini lobsters, although true lobsters do not exist in freshwater. This crayfish's natural habitat is bodies of water in North America (e.g. a pond). They are similar to the Orange CPO Crayfish in appearance and behavior, but their colors are earth tones as opposed to the bright orange color that the CPOs display. Most Brazos Dwarf Crayfish are brown in color, and some feature some tan and beige colors that form marble patterns along the body. Dwarf crayfish like this one are among our favorite invertebrates here at Aquatic Arts and an excellent choice for the nano aquarium or office tank atop a desk. They are larger than dwarf shrimp (they can grow up to 1.6 inches long) and tend to live much longer, but are still small enough to comfortably live in a tank as small as 5 gallons. They are active and do not typically hide in the dark during the day like most larger crayfish, but they do appreciate a decoration or fixture that provides cover, such as a clay house or hut, or clay pot decorations. Though this crayfish is small enough not to be a threat to most other tank inhabitants, they have on occasion gone after dwarf shrimp (such as Blue Diamond Shrimp), so raising them in the same tank poses a slight risk. Most cichlids and goldfish are aggressive toward crayfish, and any bottom feeder should also be avoided. They generally can be kept with some species of fast-moving fish (e.g. Cory Catfish, Freshwater Eels, etc.) and snails (such as Assassin Snails, Black Devil Snails, and Red Racer Snails).CARE GUIDELINES:- Temperature: 60 - 82° F (16 - 28° C) - pH: 6.0 - 6.8 - KH: 6 - 12 dKH - Minimum tank size: 5 gallons - Average adult size: 1.6 inches (4 cm) - Average purchase size: .5 - 1 inch (1.3 – 2.5 cm)

  • Brazos Dwarf Crayfish (Cambarellus texanus) feature a marbled pattern of various brown, tan, and beige colors. These crayfish are very small, reaching a maximum size of 1.6 inches (4 cm).
  • These do not hideout during light hours like most crayfish - they are super active and mobile. However, they still do best in tanks with plants or décor that provides cover.
  • They do well in most community aquariums, though they occasionally have been known to eat dwarf shrimp. We keep them with snails and live plants, and they never bother any of their tank mates.
  • Easy to care for – they are fully aquatic and feed on leftover food or most kinds of fish pellets or flakes. Basic aquarium supplies required, including aquarium substrate like sand or gravel.
  • This listing is for 1 breeding pair, so each box includes 1 male and 1 female crayfish. All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with 100% live arrival guarantee and free email support!
