The F-100D, the pinnacle of the F-100 series, saw 1,274 units produced, with its final aircraft rolling off the line in August 1959. Arriving in Southeast Asia in 1962, the F-100D's primary role was close air support and ground attack in South Vietnam, a task later taken over by the A-7 Corsair II. Nicknamed 'The Hun', 242 F-100Ds were lost before the last one left Vietnam in July 1971. The F-4 Phantom II and F-105 Thunderchief eventually replaced 'The Hun'. Originally designated the 510th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, the unit was later known as the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron (Buzzards). Activated in 1959 at Clark AFB, Philippines, they were equipped with the North American F-100D Super Sabre. During their brief tour in Thailand from May 11 to June 8, 1962, they were stationed at Takhli RTAFB, displaying a white Speed Bird and adopting the Thai Cobra symbol on their aircraft tails. Hobby Master presents this aircraft in 1:72 scale.
